Doing Your Best, Even When It Sucks

May 18, 2015

I’ve decided to do my best today, even if my best sucks.

I’m behind on my projects, not feeling creative, and everything I write I’m throwing in the trash, but you know what? I’m going to do my best, and know that whatever happens, it was the best I could do.

Some days what I write sucks, so the best I could do that day was suck. Even writing this tiny article is taking forever, but it’s the best I can do, so I’m going to keep doing it.

All we can ever do is show up and do our best, even when we end up with dog shit.

We need to keep doing our best, especially when it sucks, because that’s when everybody gives up. That’s when we walk away and never come back. If we can’t allow our best to suck, we won’t be there for the miracles, the times when what we produce is so good it doesn’t even seem possible that it came from us.

So I’ve decided that today, instead of holding myself to the impossible standard of being brilliant, I’m simply going to clock in, do my best, and clock out.
